Applications of Newton's Laws in Real-World Situations - JSS2 Basic technology Lesson Note

Transport and Vehicles:

  • First Law: Seat belts in cars are designed to keep passengers in place, preventing them from continuing to move forward when the car suddenly stops.
  • Second Law: Engineers calculate the required engine force to achieve desired acceleration for cars, trucks, and other vehicles.
  • Third Law: Jet engines push air backward to propel aircraft forward.

Sports:

  • First Law: A soccer ball remains stationary until kicked.
  • Second Law: The force applied by a bat to a baseball determines how fast and far the ball will travel.
  •  Third Law: Swimmers push water backward to move forward in the pool.

Everyday Life:

  • First Law: A cup of coffee on a table remains at rest until someone picks it up.
  • Second Law: Lifting heavier objects requires more force, so you exert more effort to lift a full bucket of water than an empty one.
  • Third Law: Walking involves pushing the ground backward with your feet, and in return, the ground pushes you forward.
