Bisecting Angles - JSS2 Mathematics Lesson Note
Using a Compass and a Ruler
Steps:
Draw the Angle:
Draw an angle β π΄π΅πΆ with vertex π΅.
Arc Intersection:
Place the compass at the vertex π΅ and draw an arc that intersects both arms of the angle.Β
Label the intersection points as π· and πΈ.
Intersecting Arcs:
Without changing the compass width, place the compass at π· and draw an arc inside the angle.
Repeat the process by placing the compass at πΈ and draw another arc that intersects the first arc. Label the intersection point as πΉ.
Draw the Bisector:
Draw a lie from the vertex π΅ through the intersection point πΉ. This line bisects the angle β π΄π΅πΆ into two equal parts.
Β
Example: Bisect an angle β π΄π΅πΆ.
Steps:
Draw β π΄π΅πΆ.
Place the compass at π΅ and draw an arc intersecting π΄π΅ and π΅πΆ at π· and πΈ.
With the same compass width, draw arcs from π· and πΈ that intersect at πΉ.
Draw line π΅πΉ to bisect β π΄π΅πΆ.
