Bisecting Angles - JSS2 Mathematics Lesson Note

Using a Compass and a Ruler

Steps:

Draw the Angle:

Draw an angle โˆ ๐ด๐ต๐ถ with vertex ๐ต.

Arc Intersection:

Place the compass at the vertex ๐ต and draw an arc that intersects both arms of the angle. 

Label the intersection points as ๐ท and ๐ธ.

Intersecting Arcs:

Without changing the compass width, place the compass at ๐ท and draw an arc inside the angle.

Repeat the process by placing the compass at ๐ธ and draw another arc that intersects the first arc. Label the intersection point as ๐น.

Draw the Bisector:

Draw a lie from the vertex ๐ต through the intersection point ๐น. This line bisects the angle โˆ ๐ด๐ต๐ถ into two equal parts.

 

Example: Bisect an angle โˆ ๐ด๐ต๐ถ.

Steps:

Draw โˆ ๐ด๐ต๐ถ.

Place the compass at ๐ต and draw an arc intersecting ๐ด๐ต and ๐ต๐ถ at ๐ท and ๐ธ.

With the same compass width, draw arcs from ๐ท and ๐ธ that intersect at ๐น.

Draw line ๐ต๐น to bisect โˆ ๐ด๐ต๐ถ.
