Climatic and Soil Requirements - SS1 Agriculture Lesson Note
Oil palms thrive in tropical climates. They require high temperatures, preferably between 24-28°C (75-82°F), and an annual rainfall of about 2000-2500 mm evenly distributed throughout the year. They grow best in well-drained soils with good fertility and a pH range of 4.5-7.0.
Melons prefer warm, subtropical to tropical climates. They require temperatures between 21-32°C (70-90°F) and well-distributed rainfall, with around 500-750 mm annually. Melons grow best in well-drained, sandy loam or loamy soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of 6.0-7.0.
Groundnuts are suited to subtropical and tropical regions. They require temperatures between 20-30°C (68-86°F) and a well-distributed annual rainfall of about 500-1000 mm. Groundnuts thrive in well-drained, sandy loam or loamy soils with a slightly acidic to neutral pH of 5.8-7.0.
