Collection of Like Terms - JSS1 Mathematics Lesson Note
Collecting like terms involves combining terms that have the same variable part. This simplifies the expression, making it easier to work with.
Examples:
Simplify 4π₯+3π₯β2π₯:
Combine the π₯ terms.
4π₯+3π₯β2π₯=(4+3β2)π₯=5π₯.
Simplify 5π+2πβ3π+4π:
Combine the π terms and the π terms separately.
5πβ3π=2π and 2π+4π=6π.
The result is 2π+6π.
Simplify 7π2+4πβ2π2+3π:
Combine the π2 terms and the π terms separately.
7π2β2π2=5π2 and 4π+3π=7π.
The result is 5π2+7π.
