Enlargements and Scale Factor - Enlarge Figures using Scale Factors - JSS3 Mathematics Lesson Note
Enlarging a figure means making it bigger while maintaining its shape. This is done using a scale factor, which is a ratio that compares the size of the enlarged figure to the original figure.
Example:
Let's say we have a rectangle with dimensions 4 cm by 6 cm. We want to enlarge it with a scale factor of 2.
Original rectangle dimensions: 4 cm x 6 cm
Enlarged rectangle dimensions:
4×2 cm x 6×2 cm = 8 cm x 12 cm
Here, the scale factor is 2, meaning every dimension of the original rectangle was multiplied by 2 to get the enlarged rectangle.
