Fungi - SS3 Agriculture Lesson Note
Fungi are a group of organisms that include molds and yeasts. While they're not as common as bacteria or viruses in causing diseases, they can still be harmful. Here are their modes of transmission:
Direct Contact: Fungal infections can occur through direct contact with infected skin, nails, or mucous membranes.
Indirect Contact: Fungi can also spread indirectly through contaminated surfaces, objects, or shared personal items like towels or combs.
Airborne Transmission: Some molds release tiny spores into the air, which, when inhaled, can cause respiratory fungal infections. For instance, inhaling mold spores can lead to aspergillosis in susceptible species.
Vector-Borne: Unlike bacteria and viruses, fungi are not typically transmitted by vectors like insects. Most fungal infections are due to environmental exposure or direct contact.
