Legislature - SS1 Government Lesson Note
A legislature is a group of people who have the power to make laws for a particular country or state. The main function of a legislature is to debate and pass laws that reflect the will of the people they represent.
Legislatures may be unicameral, with one chamber, or bicameral, with two chambers. In a bicameral system, the upper chamber is often seen as more prestigious, while the lower chamber is more representative of the general population.
The members of a legislature may be elected by the people or appointed by a higher authority. The legislature may also have other functions, such as approving government budgets, conducting inquiries, and overseeing the work of the executive branch of government.
