Meaning of Unitary system of government - SS1 Government Lesson Note
A Unitary system of government is a type of political system in which power is concentrated in a central government, and regional or local authorities have limited autonomy.
In this system, the central government holds all the power and makes all the important decisions on behalf of the country or nation. The regions or local authorities may have some responsibilities and powers delegated to them by the central government, but they ultimately answer to the central government.
In contrast to a federal system of government, where power is divided between the central government and regional governments, a unitary system gives all power to the central government. This system is commonly found in countries such as France, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
