Meaning/Definition of representative government. - SS1 Government Lesson Note
Representative government refers to a political system in which citizens elect representatives to make decisions on their behalf. These representatives, who are usually elected through a democratic process, are responsible for passing laws and making policies that reflect the wishes and interests of the people they represent. In a representative government, citizens have a say in the decisions that affect their lives, but they do not make these decisions directly themselves. Instead, they choose individuals to act as their voice and advocate for their interests in the government. This system of government is often contrasted with a direct democracy, in which citizens make decisions and pass laws directly themselves, without the intermediary of elected representatives.
