1. Blocked Paragraphing:
Definition: In blocked paragraphing, each paragraph starts with a new line and is separated from the previous and next paragraphs by a blank line.
Usage: Often used in formal writing, such as academic papers, reports, and business documents.
Example:
Blocked paragraphing keeps each paragraph distinct and visually separated, aiding clarity and organization in longer texts.
2. Indented Paragraphing:
Definition: In indented paragraphing, the first line of each paragraph is indented or pushed inward from the left margin.
Usage: Commonly seen in informal writing, including most novels, essays, and articles.
Example:
Indented paragraphing is a classic style that creates a visual cue to distinguish paragraphs without the need for extra blank lines.
3. Hanging Paragraphing:
Definition: In hanging paragraphing, the first line of each paragraph is flush with the left margin, while subsequent lines are indented.
Usage: Less common than the other two methods but occasionally used in creative writing or specific formatting requirements.
Example:
In hanging paragraphing, the first line bravely stands alone at the edge, while the rest of the paragraph follows suit, creating a unique visual rhythm.
