Nature And Structure of Industries In Nigeria - SS1 Economics Lesson Note

Nigeria has a diverse range of industries, including oil and gas, manufacturing, agriculture, and services. The country's industrial sector is concentrated mainly in the southern and western regions of the country, where infrastructure is relatively well-developed.

  • The oil and gas industry is the most important sector of the Nigerian economy, accounting for over 90% of export earnings and approximately 70% of government revenue.

  • The manufacturing sector is relatively small and mainly focused on food processing, textiles, cement, and light manufacturing.  

  • Agriculture is also an important sector, with Nigeria being one of the largest producers of crops such as cocoa, cassava, and rubber. 

  • As earlier stated, the services sector is the fastest-growing in Nigeria, with sectors such as telecommunications, banking, and retail experiencing significant growth.
