Rural – Urban Migration - SS1 Economics Lesson Note
Rural-urban migration refers to the movement of people from rural areas to urban areas. This happens when people leave their homes in rural areas and move to cities in search of better opportunities such as jobs, education, and healthcare. This trend has become increasingly common as cities have grown and developed.
People migrate from rural areas to urban areas for various reasons, such as the availability of better job opportunities, higher wages, better living conditions, access to education and healthcare, and access to modern amenities such as electricity, clean water, and sanitation facilities. However, this migration also leads to various challenges, such as overcrowding in urban areas, overburdened public services, and infrastructure, pollution, and increased competition for jobs.
