The Duration of the Competition of Decathlon and Pentathlon - JSS3 Physical and health education Lesson Note

Decathlon:

The decathlon is a two-day event.

Day 1: 100 meters, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, 400 meters.

Day 2: 110 meters Hurdles, Discus Throw, Pole Vault, Javelin Throw, 1500 meters.

Each event is scored individually, and the total score across all events determines the winner.

Pentathlon:

The pentathlon can be completed in one day.

Traditional women's pentathlon: 100 meters hurdles, Shot Put, High Jump, Long Jump, 800 meters.

Modern pentathlon: Fencing, Swimming, Equestrian Show Jumping, Pistol Shooting, and Cross-Country Running.

Similar to the decathlon, each event is scored, and the cumulative score decides the winner.

Scoring the Event

Each event has a points table. Performance in each event is converted into points.

For track events, faster times mean higher points.

For field events, longer distances or higher jumps result in more points.

The points are then summed to get the total score for each athlete.
