Types of Political party - SS1 Government Lesson Note
There are different types of political parties, each with their unique characteristics and approach to politics. Some of the common types of political parties include:
· Mass Parties: These are parties that aim to mobilize and represent a broad segment of society, such as the working class or the middle class. Mass parties often have a strong organizational structure and seek to build a strong base of support among their constituents.
· Elite Parties: These are parties that are primarily composed of the political and economic elite, such as business owners and wealthy individuals. Elite parties tend to be more focused on maintaining their power and influence, rather than mobilizing and representing a broader segment of society.
· Charismatic Parties: These are parties that are centered around a charismatic leader who has a strong personal appeal to their followers. Charismatic parties often prioritize the personality of their leader over specific policies or ideologies.
· Broker Parties: These are parties that act as intermediaries between different interest groups, such as labor unions, business groups, and other organizations. Broker parties often seek to negotiate compromises and build consensus among these groups, rather than promoting a specific ideology or agenda.
· Ideological Parties: These are parties that are based on a specific ideology, such as liberalism, conservatism, or socialism. Ideological parties prioritize promoting their specific ideology and advancing policies that align with it.
