Computer: A device that can be programmed to perform a variety of tasks.
Internet: A global network of computers that allows users to share information and communicate with each other.
Software: A set of instructions that tell a computer what to do.
Hardware: The physical components of a computer system.
Data: Information that is stored in a computer.
Algorithm: A set of steps that are used to solve a problem.
Theory: A well-supported explanation of a natural phenomenon.
Law: A statement that describes a relationship between two or more variables.
Experiment: A controlled test that is used to gather data about a natural phenomenon.
As new technologies emerge, new vocabulary will be created to describe them.
Here are some examples of current vocabulary associated with science and technology:
Cell phone: A portable telephone that uses cellular radio waves to communicate.
SMS: Short message service, a text messaging service that is used to send short messages between cell phones.
Ping: A command that is used to test whether a computer is connected to a network.
Email: Electronic mail, a system for sending and receiving messages over the internet.
Browse: To search for information on the internet.
Upload: To transfer a file from a computer to a server.
Download: To transfer a file from a server to a computer.
