Waves, Tides, and Currents - SS2 Geography Lesson Note
Waves, tides, and currents are interconnected processes in the ocean. Waves are primarily caused by wind blowing across the water's surface, creating disturbances in the form of ripples or larger waves. These waves can be classified into several types, such as wind waves, swell, and rogue waves.
Tides are the periodic rise and fall of sea levels caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun. There are typically two high tides and two low tides in a 24-hour period.
Currents are the continuous, horizontal flow of water in the ocean, which can be driven by various factors, including tides, wind, and temperature differences. Ocean currents have a major impact on the movement of water and can influence coastal ecosystems.
