The Law of Moses stated, “An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth”, which means when someone misplaces your property, he MUST get you another or be made sure to lose the same thing at the same value.

Jesus taught that God’s rule in our hearts requires that we should not revenge or retaliate against someone who offends us. Therefore, instead of the Old Law which called for retaliation: “An eye for an eye”, Jesus called for non-violence.

We should not fast or pray in the open for people to see us as deeply religious people, for that is hypocrisy. When we are fasting, we should not look miserable for hypocrisy. When fasting we should appear simple. 

Instead of worrying about your material needs, you should put your trust in God by seeking spiritual virtues and all other things will be given to you:

“Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be yours as well.”

1. As Christians, it is good to fast but it should be done without being noticed by others.

2. We should develop the habit of communing with God through prayer.

3..Money should never be our god. It should serve us not we serving it.

4. Those who love money and are always desiring of getting more often fall into temptation and sin.
