The Sun is a star at the centre of the solar system. It is composed mainly of hydrogen (about 74%) and helium (about 24%). The Sun has three main layers: the core, the radiative zone, and the convective zone. It releases energy through nuclear fusion, where hydrogen nuclei combine to form helium, releasing tremendous amounts of energy in the process.
