Question on: JSS2 Basic technology - Introduction to Mechanics
What is the difference between tension force and normal force?
Tension force is the force transmitted through a string, rope, cable, or wire when it is pulled tight by forces acting from opposite ends. It is what holds up a hanging picture frame or supports a suspension bridge. Normal force, on the other hand, is the support force exerted upon an object in contact with another stable object, such as a book resting on a table. The table exerts an upward normal force to balance the downward gravitational force on the book, preventing it from falling.
