ASUU strike takes a different dimension as the body conducts a referendum to decide whether (or not) to continue the ongoing industrial action.
Latest news about ASUU strike has it that the national leadership of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) directed all the zonal coordinators of the union to meet with their branch chairpersons to conduct a referendum on the offers of government concerning the ongoing strike.
Outcome of ASUU referendum
According to Punch (link), "over 200 members of the University of Ibadan chapter, who attended the congress allegedly voted for the continuation of the strike while a little above 50 voted for the suspension of the strike."
On the overall outcome, information from the zonal congress says that majority of the members voted for the continuation of the strike because they doubted government’s sincerity in fulfilling its new promises.
With this outcome, it seems ASUU strike might linger for longer than we expected.
