The Federal Government has announced an increase in the monthly allowance for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members. Starting from July 2024, Corps Members will now receive N77,000 per month, a big jump from the previous N33,000 stipend. This new allowance follows the enactment of the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024.

NYSC Corps Members' Allowance Now N77,000

The official confirmation came through a letter dated 25th September 2024 from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, signed by the Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta. The letter states that the new allowance for NYSC members will take effect from July 2024.

Before this development, Corps Members had been receiving N33,000 as their monthly allowance. The increase to N77,000 is expected to improve their welfare.

Role of NYSC Leadership in Securing the Increase

The increase came after Brigadier General YD Ahmed, the Director General of NYSC, made an advocacy visit to the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission. During the visit, he requested improved welfare package for Corps Members, which has now been approved.

Brigadier General Ahmed expressed his gratitude to the Federal Government for this timely intervention, noting that it will not only provide financial relief but also boost the morale of Corps Members, motivating them to serve the nation with greater dedication.

This new monthly allowance of N77,000 is a much appreciated improvement over the previous N33,000 and comes as a relief for thousands or millions of Corps Members nationwide. The increment is expected to help ease financial pressures and improve the overall welfare of NYSC corp member.
