Strike action that was to be embarked upon by the labour force in Nigeria has been suspended.
Recall that the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) had earlier declared a strike action against the hike in fuel prices and electricity tariffs by the government. The latest news however is that the NLC has suspended its planned nationwide strike that would have started today, Monday, September 28.
Earlier, there were indications that the Federal Government and NLC might reach an agreement to avert the looming nationwide strike.
Regarding ongoing negotiations between the government and the NLC, the Minister of State, Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo(SAN) stated on his Twitter handle(@fkeyamo) that negotiation is still ongoing: “Still negotiating with labour at exactly 12.34am. Some progress have been made. Concrete proposals on the table from both sides.
“Details being worked on by the temporary Secretariat. Gradually moving towards a point of convergence. Let’s hope….”
