Advantages of a Unitary System of Government:

·         Easy to govern: Due to the centralized power and uniform laws, a unitary system of government is relatively easy to govern and administer.

·         Effective decision-making: In a unitary system, decisions can be made quickly and efficiently because power is concentrated in the central government.

·         Consistency: The laws and regulations are uniform throughout the country, which helps to promote consistency and reduce confusion.

·         Economic efficiency: The central government can plan and coordinate economic policies effectively, which can lead to greater efficiency and better economic outcomes.

·         National unity: A unitary system can promote national unity and a sense of shared identity among citizens.

 

Disadvantages of a Unitary System of Government:

·         Limited regional autonomy: In a unitary system, regional or local authorities have limited autonomy, which can lead to resentment and a lack of representation.

·         Inflexibility: The centralized nature of a unitary system can make it inflexible and slow to respond to regional or local needs and concerns.

·         Lack of diversity: Due to the limited autonomy of regional or local authorities, there may be limited regional diversity in a unitary system, which can lead to a lack of cultural or political representation.

·         Concentration of power: A unitary system concentrates power in the hands of the central government, which can lead to abuse of power or corruption.

·         Over centralization: The central government may become overwhelmed with too many responsibilities and may not be able to effectively govern certain regions or localities.
