Adverbials: Adverbials of Cause, Reason, Purpose, and Condition - JSS2 English language Lesson Note

Adverbs serve as modifiers for verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs, providing additional information about the verb they are modifying.

Adverb of Cause or Reason: These adverbs answer the question “why?” For instance, the word “because” is often used in this context. An example would be: “The project was delayed because the resources were not available.”

Adverb of Condition: These adverbs, such as “if”, “unless”, “until”, and “in as much as”, set a condition for the action in the sentence. For example: “The team will win the match if they play strategically.”

Adverb of Purpose: These adverbs, like “so that” and “in order to”, indicate the purpose or intention behind the action in the sentence. For instance: “She started studying early in order to finish her homework before dinner.”
