Background of the Novelist - SS2 Literature Lesson Note

Richard Wright was born in Mississippi in 1908. He grew up in poverty and experienced racism firsthand. He began writing as a young man and published his first novel, Uncle Tom's Children, in 1938. Native Son was his second novel and it made him a literary sensation.
