Background of the Play-Wright/dramatist
Raymond Dele-Charley was born in Sierra Leone in 1936. He is one of the most important and influential playwrights in Sierra Leone and West Africa. He has written over 20 plays, including "The Blood of a Stranger," "The Last Laugh," and "The Devil's Disciple." Dele-Charley's plays often explore themes of colonialism, exploitation, and social justice.
Background and Setting of the Play
"The Blood of a Stranger" is set in the fictional village of Mando in Sierra Leone during the colonial era. The village is a traditional African community with its own customs and beliefs. The villagers are largely illiterate and superstitious.
