Basic Knitting Stitches - JSS3 Cultural and creative art Lesson Note

(i) Purl Stitch: This stitch creates a textured surface on the fabric. To purl, the yarn is held in front of the work, and the needle is inserted from right to left into the front loop of the stitch on the left needle. The yarn is then wrapped around the needle and pulled through to create a new stitch.

(ii) Knit Stitch: The knit stitch is the most basic in knitting. It creates a smooth, V-shaped pattern on the fabric. To knit, the yarn is held in the back of the work, and the needle is inserted from left to right into the front loop of the stitch on the left needle. The yarn is wrapped around the needle and pulled through to create a new stitch.
