Boiling and evaporation - JSS2 Basic science Lesson Note
Boiling and evaporation are both processes by which a liquid turns into a gas, but they differ in how they occur. Boiling happens when a liquid reaches its boiling point and turns into vapor throughout the entire liquid. It occurs at a specific temperature and pressure, known as the boiling point, and is a rapid process. On the other hand, evaporation occurs at the surface of a liquid when its molecules gain enough energy to escape into the air as vapor. It can occur at any temperature, even below the boiling point, and is a slower process compared to boiling.
