Calculation of distances using lines of latitudes - SS1 Geography Lesson Note
Calculating distances using lines of latitudes is straightforward. The distance between two points on the same line of latitude is constant and can be easily calculated using the circumference of the Earth (approximately 40,075 kilometers at the equator). You can use the formula:
Distance = (Latitude in degrees / 360) x Circumference of the Earth
For example, to calculate the distance between two points along the same latitude line, you can simply multiply the difference in their latitudes by the fraction of the Earth's circumference. This method is useful for estimating travel distances and understanding the Earth's dimensions in a north-south direction.
