Classification of Files: - SS2 ICT Lesson Note

Files can be classified based on different criteria:

Based on Content: Files can be classified according to the type of data they contain, such as text files, image files, audio files, video files, etc.

Based on Use: Files can be categorized based on their purpose, such as program files, data files, configuration files, and temporary files.

Based on Access Rights: Files can be classified based on who has access to them, such as read-only files, read-write files, and executable files.

Based on Storage Location: Files can be categorized based on their storage location, such as local files, network files, and cloud-based files.

Based on Structure: Files can be classified based on their internal structure, such as flat files (with a simple structure) and structured files (with a more complex data structure).

Remember that the choice of file organization and access method depends on the nature of the data, the intended use of the files, and the performance requirements of the system. Each approach has its advantages and trade-offs.
