Climatic and Soil Requirements: - SS1 Agriculture Lesson Note
Yam: Yam prefers tropical and subtropical climates with temperatures between 25°C and 30°C. It requires well-drained, loamy soils rich in organic matter. Yam thrives in regions with evenly distributed rainfall, but it can tolerate short dry periods during the growing season.
Cassava: Cassava is a tropical crop that can tolerate a wide range of temperatures but prefers an average temperature around 27°C. It grows well in well-drained sandy loam or clay soils. Cassava is relatively drought-tolerant, but it requires adequate rainfall or irrigation during its growing period.
Sweet Potatoes: Sweet potatoes are also adapted to tropical and subtropical climates. They prefer warm temperatures between 24°C and 29°C. Well-drained sandy loam or loamy soils are ideal for sweet potatoes. They require consistent moisture but can tolerate short dry spells.
