Climatic Requirements - SS1 Agriculture Lesson Note

Groundnut (Peanut): Groundnut thrives in warm, tropical and subtropical climates. It requires a frost-free growing season with temperatures between 25°C to 30°C (77°F to 86°F). Groundnut is sensitive to frost and cannot tolerate waterlogged soils. It requires well-distributed rainfall, with an ideal range of 500-750 mm during the growing season. However, groundnut can also be grown in areas with irrigation facilities.

Cowpea: Cowpea is adaptable to a wide range of climates, but it is particularly well-suited for hot, arid regions. It can grow in temperatures ranging from 25°C to 35°C (77°F to 95°F). Cowpea is drought-tolerant and can withstand periods of low rainfall, making it a resilient crop for regions with erratic rainfall patterns.
