Computer Hardware - SS1 ICT Lesson Note

The computer hardware encompasses the physical components that make up a computer system, including the system unit and peripherals.

System Unit

The system unit is the central component of a computer that houses essential hardware components such as the motherboard, CPU (Central Processing Unit), RAM (Random Access Memory), storage drives, and power supply. It provides the framework for all other hardware components to communicate and work together.

The motherboard acts as the main circuit board, connecting all the other components and facilitating data transfer between them. The CPU is the brain of the computer, responsible for executing instructions and performing calculations. RAM provides temporary storage for data that the CPU is currently working on, while storage drives (HDDs, SSDs) store the operating system, software, and user data.

Peripherals

Peripherals are devices connected to the computer that extend its capabilities or offer input and output functions. Some common peripherals include:

Input Devices: These devices allow users to input information into the computer, such as keyboards, mice, touchscreens, scanners, and microphones.
