Conflict over each adopted revenue allocation formula. - SS3 Government Lesson Note

The conflict over each adopted revenue allocation formula in Nigeria arises from the perception of unfairness and inequality among the different regions and levels of government. The revenue allocation formula is meant to distribute the country's income among the federal, state, and local governments, based on certain criteria such as population, land area, and internally generated revenue. However, different regions and levels of government often feel that they are not receiving a fair share of the revenue.

For example, some oil-producing states argue that they should receive a higher percentage of the revenue due to the resources they contribute to the national economy. On the other hand, some non-oil producing states argue that they are not receiving enough revenue despite their population and land area.

The federal government also receives a significant percentage of the revenue, which some argue is excessive and takes away from the autonomy of the states and local governments.

This conflict over revenue allocation has led to protests, agitations, and even violence in some cases. Different regions and levels of government have called for a review of the revenue allocation formula to address their concerns and ensure fairness and equity.
