Conservation Agriculture - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note
Conservation agriculture is a set of practices that aim to enhance soil health, reduce erosion, and improve water use efficiency.
1. Minimal Tillage: Reduces soil disturbance by minimising ploughing and cultivating, helping to preserve soil structure and reduce erosion.
2. Cover Cropping: Involves planting cover crops during fallow periods to protect the soil, add organic matter, and prevent erosion.
3. Crop Residue Management: Retains crop residues on the field after harvest, acting as a natural mulch to protect the soil and conserve moisture.
4. Crop Rotation: Alternates the types of crops grown in a specific area, improving soil fertility and disrupting pest and disease cycles.
