Conservation Structures - JSS3 Agricultural Science Lesson Note
Conservation structures are physical barriers or installations designed to control erosion, manage water flow, and protect soil from degradation. Examples of conservation structures include:
1. Check Dams: Small structures built across watercourses to slow down water flow, reduce erosion, and promote sediment deposition.
2. Grassed Waterways: Vegetated channels designed to convey surface water runoff without causing erosion.
3. Retention Ponds: Artificial reservoirs constructed to capture and store excess water, preventing runoff and erosion downstream.
4. Windbreaks: Rows of trees or shrubs planted to reduce wind velocity and prevent wind erosion in agricultural fields.
