The production of /∫/ involves the tip, blade and sides of the tongue. The blade of the tongue is raised towards the hard palate. It is a voiceless sound. Example shoes, sheep and nation.
To make / ʧ / the tongue forms a total obstruction of the airstream. The air escapes as the obstruction is slowly released. It is a voiceless sound. Examples; church, catch and nature.
