Convection - JSS2 Basic science Lesson Note

Convection is a process of heat transfer that occurs in fluids (liquids and gases). It happens when warmer particles in a fluid rise, carrying heat energy with them, and cooler particles sink, creating a cycle of circulation. Think of a pot of boiling water: the heat from the bottom of the pot causes the water near the bottom to heat up and rise, while the cooler water near the surface sinks and replaces it, creating a continuous flow.

This process is essential for distributing heat in environments like the Earth's atmosphere and oceans. Convection currents also play a crucial role in phenomena such as weather patterns and ocean currents. In simpler terms, convection is like a natural heat redistribution system that helps regulate temperatures in fluids.
