Cultural Control Methods - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note
Cultural control involves manipulating agricultural practices to reduce the incidence and impact of pests and diseases.
1. Crop Rotation: Alternating the types of crops grown in a specific area over seasons disrupts the life cycles of pests and diseases, reducing their buildup.
2. Polyculture and Intercropping: Growing different crops together or in close proximity helps deter pests by creating a diverse environment that may not favour specific pests.
3. Sanitation: Removing and properly disposing of crop residues, weeds, and diseased plants helps eliminate potential breeding grounds for pests and pathogens.
