Descriptive Essay - JSS2 English language Lesson Note
A descriptive essay is a type of essay that asks students to describe something. This could be an object, person, place, experience, or situation.
Here are some guidelines for writing a descriptive essay
-
- Title: Choose a clear and engaging title for your essay. It should give the reader an idea of what the essay is about.
- Paragraphs: Organize your essay into well-structured paragraphs. Each paragraph should focus on a specific aspect of your description. For example:
- Introduction: Introduce the topic and provide some context.
- Body paragraphs: Describe different aspects of the subject. Use one paragraph for each significant detail.
- Conclusion: Summarize your main points and leave a lasting impression.
Figures of Speech:
- Metaphors: Compare one thing to another without using “like” or “as.” For example, “The sun was a golden coin in the sky.”
- Similes: Compare using “like” or “as.” For instance, “Her laughter was like a melody.”
- Personification: Give human qualities to non-human things. Example: “The wind whispered secrets through the leaves.”
Clarity and Logic:
- Be clear and concise in your descriptions. Avoid ambiguity.
- Use logical transitions between paragraphs to maintain coherence.
