Developmental changes across different stages - JSS2 Basic science Lesson Note
Infancy: This is the stage from birth to about 2 years old. Major developments include rapid physical growth, motor skill development (like crawling, walking), cognitive growth (learning to recognize faces, objects, and basic language sounds), and social-emotional development (forming attachments to caregivers).
Adolescence: This stage typically spans from around 12 to 18 years old. Adolescents undergo significant physical changes due to puberty, experience cognitive growth (abstract thinking, problem-solving), form identity and values, explore independence, and establish peer relationships while grappling with emotional ups and downs.
Adulthood: Adulthood begins around 20 years old and continues throughout life. It is characterized by further physical development until around middle age, cognitive maturation, establishment of career and relationships, possibly starting a family, and facing various life challenges such as career changes, parenthood, and caregiving for aging parents. Emotional stability tends to increase during this period.
