Differences and Similarities between Latitudes and Longitudes: - SS1 Geography Lesson Note

Differences:

Orientation: Latitudes are horizontal lines running east to west, while longitudes are vertical lines running north to south.

 

Measurement: Latitude values range from 0 to 90 degrees, whereas longitude values range from 0 to 180 degrees (both east and west of the Prime Meridian).

 

Use: Latitudes measure north-south positions, while longitudes measure east-west positions.

 

Similarities:

Both are Angular Measurements: Both latitudes and longitudes are measured in degrees, minutes, and seconds.

 

Reference Points: They both use reference lines - the equator for latitudes and the Prime Meridian for longitudes.
