Division of Occupation - JSS1 Business studies Lesson Note

Occupations are broadly categorized into four main divisions:

i. Primary:

Primary occupations involve directly exploiting natural resources from the environment. This includes activities like agriculture, fishing, forestry, mining, and hunting. These occupations are essential for providing raw materials for other industries and sustaining human life.

ii. Industrial:

Industrial occupations involve the transformation of raw materials into finished goods through manufacturing processes. This division encompasses a wide range of activities, including manufacturing, construction, processing, and production. Industrial occupations play a crucial role in creating goods for consumption and infrastructure development.

iii. Commercial:

Commercial occupations involve the exchange of goods and services for profit. This includes activities such as trade, retail, wholesale, transportation, and warehousing. Commercial occupations facilitate the distribution of goods and services from producers to consumers, contributing to economic growth and development.

iv. Services:

Service occupations involve providing intangible services to individuals, businesses, or organizations. This category includes professions such as healthcare, education, finance, hospitality, entertainment, information technology, and consulting. Service occupations focus on meeting the needs and preferences of consumers, enhancing quality of life, and supporting other sectors of the economy.
