Ecosystem Services - JSS1 Agricultural science Lesson Note
Ecosystem services are the benefits that humans derive from functioning ecosystems. Agriculture both relies on and contributes to these services.
1. Pollination: Many crops depend on pollinators like bees for reproduction. Conserving natural habitats supports pollinator populations.
2. Water Purification: Healthy ecosystems contribute to water purification, ensuring the availability of clean water for agriculture.
3. Soil Fertility: Natural processes in ecosystems contribute to soil fertility, supporting agricultural productivity.
4. Climate Regulation: Forests and other ecosystems help regulate climate by absorbing carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen, influencing agricultural climate conditions.
