Effects of Friction on Motion - JSS2 Basic technology Lesson Note
Friction plays a significant role in the movement of objects. It can have both positive and negative effects:
- Positive Effects: Friction allows us to walk without slipping, cars to grip the road, and objects to stay in place. It provides the necessary resistance to perform many everyday tasks, such as writing with a pen or driving a nail into wood.
- Negative Effects: Friction can cause wear and tear on moving parts, leading to damage and the need for repairs. It also generates heat, which can be detrimental in mechanical systems, causing them to overheat and reduce efficiency.
