Energy Transfer - JSS2 Basic science Lesson Note

Definition of Work: Work is done when a force is applied to an object, causing it to move in the direction of the force.

Transfer of Energy: When work is done on an object, energy is transferred to that object. This energy transfer can occur in various forms, such as kinetic energy (energy of motion) if the object starts moving, or potential energy (stored energy) if the object gains height.

Conservation of Energy: According to the law of conservation of energy, energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transferred or transformed from one form to another. So, the total energy in the system remains constant, even though it may change forms during the process of work being done.

Examples: For instance, pushing a car requires doing work on it, transferring energy from your muscles to the car's kinetic energy, causing it to move. Similarly, lifting a book against gravity transfers energy to the book in the form of potential energy.
