Equivalent Fractions, Meaning and Production - JSS1 Mathematics Lesson Note

Meaning of Equivalent Fractions:

Equivalent fractions are different fractions that represent the same value or proportion of the whole. They are obtained by multiplying or dividing the numerator and the denominator by the same number.

 

Production of Equivalent Fractions:

Multiply or divide both the numerator and the denominator by the same non-zero number.

Examples:

Starting with 

1/2

Multiply the numerator and the denominator by 2: 

1×2   =   2

    ----------

2×2    = 4

 

2/4

 

Multiply the numerator and the denominator by 3: 

1×3=     3

--------

2× 3=   6

 

3/6
