Simple machines are found all around us in everyday objects. Here are some common examples:
Lever: A seesaw, a crowbar, and scissors are examples of levers.
Pulley: A flagpole, blinds, and elevators use pulleys to lift objects or change the direction of a force.
Wheel and axle: A doorknob, a steering wheel, and a screwdriver are examples of this simple machine.
Inclined plane: A ramp, a slide, and stairs are examples of inclined planes, which make it easier to move objects up or down.
Wedge: A knife, an axe, and a doorstop are examples of wedges, which split things apart or hold things in place.
Screw: Screws, bolts, and jar lids are examples of screws, which convert rotational motion into linear motion.
