Factorization of Algebraic Expressions - JSS2 Mathematics Lesson Note

Factorization is the reverse process of expansion. It involves writing an expression as a product of its factors.

Examples:

Example 1: 3𝑎+6

Find the greatest common factor (GCF):

3(𝑎+2)

Example 2:

𝑥2+7𝑥+12

Find two numbers that multiply to 12 and add to 7 (these numbers are 3 and 4):

(𝑥+3)(𝑥+4)
