Characteristics (Features) of Poetry:
Imagery and Descriptions: Poets use vivid and colorful words to paint pictures in the reader's mind. For example, "The sun kissed the waves" makes you imagine the sun touching the water.

Rhythm and Sound: Poetry often has a musical quality. The words have a certain beat or rhythm, and they might rhyme too. Like a song, this rhythm can make poetry fun to read aloud.

Emotions and Feelings:  Poets express feelings in a powerful way. They can make you feel happy, sad, excited, or even thoughtful with just a few lines.

Short and Precise:  Poems are usually shorter than stories, but they pack a lot of meaning in a few words. Every word is carefully chosen.

Figurative Language:  Poets use metaphors, similes, and other types of figurative language to create deeper meanings. "Her smile was a ray of sunshine" is a metaphor that compares a smile to sunlight.

Themes and Messages: Every poem has a message or theme. It could be about love, nature, friendship, or any topic. The words and images used help convey this message.
